A couple of weeks ago we planned to take a few days off and take a trip to the Pacific coast. The night before we left, Google bought Motorola, so we cancelled our trip to work on a comic about it. A few days later we were just about to leave again, and HP went and kills Web OS and the TouchPad. So we cancelled the trip again for work. So on Wednesday morning, knowing that nothing else could possibly happen in the tech world, we finally booked our trip, loaded up the car, and headed out to catch some waves and some sun. And at that exact moment Steve Jobs resigned as CEO of Apple. Heh, so much for the slow news August. One of the lessons Steve taught us is that health and family come first, so we decided to keep heading to that beach, and take that time for ourselves. So today's comic is a re-worked retro, but the sentiment couldn't be stronger. Thanks Steve for everything you've done and will no doubt still do, what an insanely great journey you've taken us all on.

The JoyPoll was...

If you could thank Steve Jobs, what would it be for?

  • Teaching me to think different.
  • Showing me that good is sometimes not good enough.
  • Less is more, especially in tech.
  • Go a little crazy when you're young, and keep being one of the crazy ones.
  • If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today? And whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.
  • I'm still deciding if I want to thank the guy who helped turned me into a geek.

We were an Amazon Associate for over 15 years, but soon after we published a comic unflattering to Amazon, they canceled our account.

When we tried to find out why, we received this reply... "under the terms of the Operating Agreement, we may terminate your account at any time, with or without cause. This termination is final and not subject to appeal." Gee, thanks Jeff.

But don't worry, we will still bite the hands that feed us, even if they don't help feed us anymore.

 About us...

The Joy of Tech is a comic about technology and pop culture, created by Nitrozac and Snaggy, and updated three times a week. We like to feature the people and events that are making today's tech news.

We've been making comics on the web since early 1999, and The Joy of Tech just celebrated its 10th anniversary. We're very proud to be featured regularly on places like AllThingsD (from the people who publish The Wall Street Journal), Bloomberg Businessweek, Macworld UK magazine, Folha in Brazil, and others, both on the web and in print.

We currently live on Vancouver Island, Canada, where we have a lovely perspective of the silicon valleys to the south. We make The Joy of Tech using Apple computers, mostly on our MacBook Pros, running Mac OS X Snow Leopard. We use software from Apple, Adobe, BBedit,, and others, including Microsoft (yep, we do use Microsoft Office for Mac on occasion). Nitrozac uses a Wacom tablet to draw her illustrations.
